Improvements from 2018 to 2019 RRS

Hi All,

Had a 2018 RRS, SOOOOOO many issues, got a buy back, picked up my new 2019 RRS ATB today.

Noticied a few differences I wanted to share:
1. The cup holders in the center now “click” closed, so they no longer slide back when you brake and have a phone sitting in the cell phone holder, very cool, should have been this way from day 1.

2. System is still glitchy overall

3. Fit and Finish is improved over my ‘18, no doubt they’ve refined the manufacturing process.

4. Got the sonar sensors, very cool feature!

5. At least in California, they seem to come mandatory with front plate pre-drilled, number..

6 Head lights, the LED’s on my new car seem to be quite a bit dimmer/less bright than my old ones. Any one else notice that?

7. Seats are “crunchy,” the ‘18’s were not. Very weird.

8. Car still can’t find (won’t search) for a cellular signal if it loses it. Meaning, traffic info will not display if you lose reception or it doesn’t pick up on start up (e.g., you start the car in an underground garage).

9. LKA still doesn’t work, still can’t find the lanes for the life of it.

10. Conversation assist still hums

11. Reliability of unlocking the car, starting the engine, info system booting up, all seem to be better (so far).

do you have the 1700 watt sound system? Was curious about the conversation assist, I was told that it only comes with the premium system.
Yes, I do have that system, the sound is really nice. The conversation assistant is highly problematic though, it "hums" all the time if the moonroof is cracked or open. Also, my new car has 4 zone climate instead of 3 zone climate, so it has multiple sets of HVAC vents in the back doors and C pillars, which causes more wind noise and even more "hum." Quite ridiculous. The official response from the dealership is that they can't fix this issue and to disable it.
I have the same set-up as you - 4 zone with vents everywhere and top of the line sound system. Not sure I hear the hum, but I have a SVR so the exhaust may skew my sense of hearing it. Also, it's the dead of winter here and I haven't opened the moonroof since I got it.

Is the hum constant - or only when the moonroof is open? Conv. Assist seems to turn on/off based on ambient noise, but it seems inconsistent to me. Good party trick though - people riding in back get a kick out of it.
Hi All,

This is dealer bologna. My 2015.5 RRS, my friend's 2018 Evoque and all my previous new cars in CA did not come with predrilled holes in the front bumper. I did have to tell the dealer for my BMW's not to install the front plate and they didn't.

It only happens when the moonroof is cracked and I’m going above 65 MPH. Or, if the HVAC is at a high output setting and blowing lots of air.
Why do we still buy these and keep going back to these cars when we all experience so many irritations... For me I just love them blindly I think but i wish the car locked when i pressed the 'button' on the door. I wish the boot opened when I do the air kick under the sensor (instead I mainly look like an idiot to any passer by as I do the slow kick and the boot rarely opens, yet it opens when I wash it so end up getting water splashing inside the boot...
So funny-I have a 2017 with the "slow air kick boot open" option, and it never opens unless I am washing the vehicle as well. I have given up fooling with it. With that said, it's still my favorite vehicle, especially now with Apple Air Play added.

Jan 1, 2019 a new law went into place in CA that requires dealers to install a front plate. You can no longer, sign the paper refusing it. It also requires a temporary license plate/tags to be installed instead of the dealer advertisements. You've probably seen them around, they look like a plate, but they're white with black writing.

Thanks for the update. I know about the new dealer plate but not the front plate. That sucks though. Cars look so much better without the front plate.

California is quickly turning into an awful place to be a car enthusiast. Tightest emissions laws in the country, the new exhaust sound law (can order you to make your car completely stock and pass an in-depth inspection), mandatory front plates, no front window tinting.. It's too bad that all the most popular aftermarket shops are in California, I guess the high quantity of idiots in California have ruined it for the rest of the population.
Here i New York it has been a law for as long as i can remember, and they are quick to ticket you if you dont have one or if it fell of in an accident, They say it is for the police so you can grab someones plate number if they are coming or going. I never like it always thought it took away from the clean look of some vehicles.
Even here in New Hampshire it's taken very seriously. I agree, our cars would look way better without them.

I've lived in California for 20 years now and have never mounted the front plate. I received ONE ticket while parked in SF and paid the fine. Not bad for 20 years and I love the clean look of the front without a plate. One time I was even rear ended and the police didn't even notice I had no front plate. Anyway I guess that will change with my next new car and at that point I'll have to decide whether to take it off after purchase. But if they've drilled holes in it might as well leave it on.

That's not my experience, I've purchased 2 cars in CA this year and neither had a front plate installed.
