i took my p38 range rover 1996 to my mechanic for a service , while he was doing the service he changed the Diesel filter , after that the car would not start, The mechanic taught it was a diesel pump prob but after he did the diagnostic test it gave the result that the fault was from the immobilizer (upon turning the key the engine turns but does not start ,any idea what could be wrong with the immobilizer

It may be that it has glitched but usually the dash will tell you it is immobilised. If it is only that, lock the car with the fob, wait 30 seconds, unlock it with the fob and it should have turned the immobiliser off.

I thought the engine did not crank if immobilized? That has been my experience. Cranking but not starting would suggest a fuel problem on a diesel.
