Can anyone help me figure out how the hell i take the fan off of the shaft of the engine? 89 rrc 3.9, i already looked at the Repairs section on this site, and it says to turn the 36mm nut between the shaft and fan in the direction that the fan turns. I have done that and it just continues to turn and turn and turn, with it not coming off at all. I've taken all the bolts off the back of the fan.... Please if anyone knows what my problem is let me know - i'm going nuts! I'm trying to replace the Water pump. Thanks!!

You need one of these to hold the pump pulley still while turning the viscous clutch/fan nut.

For your reference. You can find this tool for less in many auto parts stores.

is this where the nut's supposed to break? I've soaked it in liquid wrench, and have been torquing on it and still no results. I'm clueless as to how to get this off? any help is much appreciated.

i appreciate the advice. Apparently i'm a moron. I was turning the bolt the wrong way. I read the how-to section on the main site, and it said to turn it the way the fan turns, i guess i don't know which way the fan turns. Anywho - got it off, now working on the bolts around the water pump, Thanks again guys!
