Hello All,
This is my first post to this forum but you will most likely be hearing from me on a regular basis since I do my own work on my truck. It's a 1997 4.6 HSE and here is the problem. I just purchased it and it looks like there my have been a murder in it because there is blood stains all over it and it has never been wrecked. The previous owner would not talk so I am just trying to get it fixed up. The Auto-Dimming Center Rear View Mirror is cracked and has blood all over the crack. I purchased a replacement on eBay that said it was for a 1995 to 2002 Range Rover Rear View Mirror. It came in and of course not only is the mount different, the wiring is different and I don't know how to get the original off of the window. I removed the little egg shaped cover and there is a hole with what looks like a metalic pin in the bottom but I can not figure out how to get the darn thing off the windshield! After i figure out how to get it off the Windshield, next will be figuring out the wiring. FOR GOD SAKES, IT'S A MIRROR!, how many wires does it need!?!!? The original has 3 active wires and the replacement has 4 active wires. The replacement mirror has a 10 pin plug and 7 wire coming from the mirror. Unbelievable! 7 wires connected to a piece of glass. ANYWAY, can someone help me get the original off the Windshield?

Thanks,

Well, Thank everyone for your imput. Neither Mirror has a compass and there is a slight difference in the way the mirrors are made. The new one has a round dot on the glass at the bottom that is the window to the photo electric eye. The original has the button on the bottom and the photo eye is just to the left of the push button that says "Auto" that is made into the molding of the mirror. The new one does not have any switch to turn it off and on. With that said, now I am thinking maybe the newer replacement has the extra wires to actually turn the mirror on remotely with a switch on the dash or something on the model it must have come out of. That is just a guess.I have good photos now if I can figure out how to get them on here. Sorry for the ignorance. Like I said, I am new to the forum stuff. BTW I am from Houston, Texas. I will update my profile with all my data once I figure out how.

If I can get the photos on here I have no doubt you guys can help!
I hope this photo thing works. If not, I will keep trying.Mount.jpg[/attachment:1vln3maq]Mount.jpg[/attachment:1vln3maq]New.jpg[/attachment:1vln3maq]
