What's your definition of "ECU"? I've heard a few thrown around loosely and it makes a big difference.

Engine Control Unit? - Just controls the motor
Electronic Control Unit? - One for engine, one for trans, one for EAS, ect., you could even stretch it and say the BECM is one.
