I am looking to add another l405 but this one is the 3.0 V6 14 model. It has high mileage 75k miles being sold my my local LR dealer. Initially I wanted to just add aa L320/L322 V8 to the fleet but the timing problems and issues scared me away. So now I am thinking of trading in the small RR evoque for this L405.

I am not too familiar with the 3.0 V6 engine. Is this engine reliable? Is there any catastrophic failure points or timing issues/expensive maintenance needing to be done?

I have seen a good amount of high mileage L494 Sports and L405 with the 3.0 V6 but not much info is out there on these.

please let me know or chime in with your experience with this engine

The 3.0 liter SuperCharged V-6 is essentially the LR-V8 (AJ133) with two cylinders cut-off. I believe the timing chain guide/tensioner issue was sorted late in 2012 for the 5.0 V8s so I would not worry about that issue.

All Direct Injection engines suffer from carbon buildup, which can be mitigated to some degree with air intake valve treatments, using lower volatility (NOACK less than 7%) engine oil. Chemical cleaning or walnut shell blasting can be accomplished in severe cases.

The engines still have timing issues according to my dealer. They've done a few. It is only on trucks that go 15k miles between changes and are driven in the city.

I replace my oil every 5,000 miles. I have 67,000 miles on my 2017 daily driver. I've been having it serviced at Rover Lake Bluff and Rover Chicago.

Things replaced in the past two years:

Coolant crossover pipe

Coolant pump

and.. that is it. Everything else has been software updates (which stopped around 2 months after owning it), brakes, and I had the transmission fluid replaced by my Indy. The shifts were faster and smoother after that so I'm glad I did it.

I replied to your PM as well.

I’ve been using The Euro Shop in Lake Villa and have been extremely happy with their service. Would highly recommend them.
