A few weeks ago my steering started to feel notchy and stiff usually after driving for 30 minutes or so.
When stationary and with the engine on tickover the steering was sometimes hard to turn, by building up the revs a little the steering was then easy to turn as if the flow was not great enough.
The power steering fluid smelt burnt so I changed the fluid - it made no difference.
When I looked inside the power steering tank whilst someone was turning the steering wheel from side to side there was no movement of fluid.
All this seemed to me to point to power steering pump failiure so I fitted a new one, but alas the fault is just the same.
The belt is tight and not worn or slipping - any ideas? Your help would be gratefully appreciated.
My Rangie is a 2003 model.
