Hello Everyone,

I am replacing the headliner in my 2008 due to some separation and sagging in the rear area. I got the replacement material and spray adhesive from Headliner Express, and so far everything looks pretty straightforward.
I removed the board and cleaned all the old material off, but there still seems to be a sticky thin film on the board, and I wonder just how clean it needs to be? Anyone done this and have any advice? If it does need to be 100% free of all old glue, what would you recommend? So far I have used 'Goof Off' and a scouring pad...

Thanks,

Thomas

Cheap spray paint.... saturate the backer board, residue and all in cheap spray paint. When it dries you will have a firm, sealed and even surface for the new adhesive to grab a hold of. I've done dozens of the dang backer board headliners and unless the surface is sealed adhesion will be an issue. $1.99 cans of cheap Valspar paint does wonders, takes four cans, one per quarter of the board.
