Moderators - I spent significant time researching both these forums and several other sites, not to mention putting this thread together that mutually benefits everyone. I realize there is overlap with other threads, but there is a fair amount of detailed info here. Before scolding, please take this into consideration.

My situation seems to be related to a component on a CAN BUS (high speed??):

A few weeks ago, the following 3 warning indicators displayed on instrument panel at engine start:

  • Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) lamp - BLINKING AMBER
  • Emergency Brake Assist - SOLID AMBER
  • Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) - BLINKING AMBER

The Main Message Center displays "HDC Fault System not available" and the Terrain Response System fault displayed on nav screen. Upon putting the vehicle in gear and moving, the Suspension Lowering message appears on the nav screen.

I have performed the following actions:
  1. Battery replaced (however this was done ~ 2 months ago in advance of the problem emerging). It has since been tested several times w/ both load, no-load. I did notice that the battery was bottoming out around 12.0 - 12.1 volts. 14.4 with vehicle running. Drop to low 12.x's within 2-3 minutes. Alternator tested (pass), ground cleaned and tested (pass). No parasitic draws found. Charged overnight on 3 consecutive evenings to rule out low voltage issue, problem persisted.
  2. Steering Angle Sensor replaced - As per several threads in this forum and researched wiring and CAN BUS diagrams, I decided to replace the Steering Angle Sensor. Initially all warning indicators had disappeared, but DSC and Brake warnings came back, however the AFS did *not.
  3. Visited trusted Indy today. Codes cleared then pulled with fancy SNAP ON diagnostic equipment (does not have Land Rover diagnostic equipment). Lot's going on here, but here we go:
Transmission - Manual / Transaxle and Clutch
U0126 - Lost communication with the Steering Angle Sensor Module

Antilock Brakes
C1B00 - Steering Angle Sensor
U0428 - Invalid Data Received from Steering Angle Sensor Module

All Terrain Control Module
UO401 - Invalid Data Received From Engine Control Module / Powertrain Control Module
UO402 - Invalid Data Received From Transmission Control Module
UO403 - Invalid Data Received From Transfer Case Control Module
UO416 - Invalid Data Received From Vehicle Dynamics Control Module
UO421 - Invalid Data Received From Ride Level Control Module

Ride Level Control Module
UO416 - Invalid Data Received From Vehicle Dynamics Control Module
U0428 - Invalid Data Received from Steering Angle Sensor Module

Instrument Pack
UO248 - Communication Malfunction with Remote Driver Utility Module

Lighting Control Module - Front
U0126 - Lost communication with the Steering Angle Sensor Module
U1A38 - Communication Malfunction of Left Actuator

Steering Angle Sensor Module
UO300 - Internal Control Module Software Incompatibility
U3002 - Vehicle Identification Number

HVAC (Likely unrelated)
0x1 - Left Heater Air Temperature Sensor - Open Circuit or Short to Battery

Recent repairs in previous 6 months:
- Blower Motor replaced (complex repair)
- Battery replaced (FYI - the battery that was replaced was the original OEM based on date stamp). Note voltage comments above.

Ironies:
- The problem started when the seasons changed - Hot to cold (expansion/contraction??)
- I scheduled an appt with my Indy 2 weeks ago. BY BAD LUCK, the instrument panel had cleared by arrival time in 2 phases from leaving home to reaching Indy (errands in between)
  1. 1. Initial start-up: Both the DSC and Brake warning indicators were not present, but the AFS was still blinking amber. 5 minute drive to make a planned stop on way to Indy mechanic. Vehicle off at rest for ~ 10 minutes.
  2. 2. Starting vehicle after stop - The AFS warning indicator was not illuminated. No warning indicators. No HDC fault. No Terrain System faults. No suspension lowering messages seen.
Arrived at mechanic, could not replicate the issue. Codes pulled, cleared. That day I was able to raise, lower vehicle; use Terrain System. Outside temp was a bit warmer.
Next Day - All 3 warning indicators back, fault messages reappeared.

Additional Info
- Visit to INDY today pulled the above codes, and the previously disappeared AFS warning indicator reemerged.
- Problem occurs immediately. Unlike other threads, this has never happened mid-ride.
- Vehicle drives fine.
- The headlamps perform their alignment routine properly at start. However, the lights appear to be pointing to the right at all times (as noticed while driving at dark)
- Vehicle is garaged daily.
- Performed SAS manual reset test (ignition start, wheel full right then left) - No change.
- I do not have all comms software. Their website states only 2002 - 2005.

Finally - I am visiting the Land Rover dealer next week to have the Airbag recall addressed. I am fine with paying a $150 diagnostics test but I want to make sure I get my $ worth. I will mention all details in this thread. Are there any other tests or suggestions from the community?

I will follow-up with results of any suggestions and ultimately what the dealer tells me.

Thank you for your consideration.

It's a little muddled to me, but I have had a long day.... Did your guy check the codes again after clearing them?
If the codes listed came up after clearing them, then the SAS is still popping up?
I had our old '03 come back here for a little fettling. All your warnings were lit up. Steering wheel left and right garnered no results. Calibrating it with the TekPro fixed the whole thing though.
Your guys really need LR specific gear IMHO. I dont think the Snap On can force calibrate the SAS. By force calibrate, I mean telling it to calibrate even though it has ABS faults. It normally doesnt want to calibrate the SAS when there are "active" ABS faults. The faults are caused by the SAS is the problem....

Martin
Thanks for taking the time to read the thread and provide feedback Martin. The codes I posted were the ones that immediately reposted after clearing with the SNAP-ON diagnostics tool. To your point, my mechanic did say that he it is unable to program the SAS to the vehicle and for that matter I dont know if its able to clear all faults as well, but this was what immediately came back after clearing.

I hope you are right and that reprogramming the SAS is the solution. The only part that makes me think it could be more is the U0126 - Lost communication with the Steering Angle Sensor Modukle fault. This tells me that there could be another component of the BUS that is actually causing the problem. I guess we'll find out later this week. I'll report back any updates or resolutions as the occur.

Update: Back from the dealer and they confirmed that yes, the problem is with the Steering Angle Sensor.

However, my replacement sensor was defective which would not allow them to reprogram it.

Now, time to research some other references around DIY programming. Dealer estimate for parts/labor for Steering Angle Sensor is $995 + Uncle Sammy. I hope this thread helps someone else with a similar problem and learns a valuable lesson - only replace with OEM NEW parts. At least now I will be able to replace with ease!
Final Update:

Installed another SAS and cleared all faults w/ 4Dcan. Fixed.
I know you've already got a solution and my situation/solution is slightly different, but since I found this thread while researching my own gremlin I thought it appropriate to post the info here. 2007 RR SC. While driving at very low speeds (ie. stop-n-go traffic) or driving on mild off-road steeps using various special program settings OR when being towed through a car-wash (the kind with the belt that pulls your car through) all hell would break loose and HDC, ABS, Terrain Response, Transmission Fault, etc. lights would come on. A quick switch-off and re-start of the vehicle would always reset everything, but this was very upsetting when going down a nasty steep rocky incline and all of a sudden the vehicle would lower, ABS would fail, and all the rest. I lived with this for nearly 2 years until I had it in at an aftermarket LR shop in Colorado Springs called Pikes Peek Rovers. The guru there informed me that I had a electronic rear differential lock fitted on my vehicle and that the electric pump for it was faulty. Since apparently almost ALL drive-train related systems daisy-chain through that pump it was throwing fault codes it was causing all the down-stream systems to fault as well. He replaced the pump/module for about $900 and I've not had the problem since. YAY!

I too had this happen to me on Friday. Fortunately, I had this forum (and others) as a resource, so thanks to all who have posted in the past.

It happened to me after getting an alignment done on the vehicle at the local Ford dealer. When I started it, I had the "HDC Fault" warning, plus AFS, DSC, Terrain Response not available, and I think the amber Brake warning. Plus "Suspension Lowered". I had to get out of town, so I drove home, called the dealer to let them know I had a problem and said I'd be back in on Monday. I did some quick research and determined it was likely the Steering Angle Sensor, mentioned it when I dropped it off, and a few hours later they called and said it was ready. They recalibrated the SAS and all is now great.

So if you get this combination of errors and are looking at the SAS, it may be easiest to get the SAS recalibrated. And FWIW, apparently a Ford dealer can do it.

I took my 2010
I took my 2010 Range Rover HSE in for the airbag recall and had an update as well- nothing but trouble ever since. Every code you listed I have! My truck has been parked for 3 months- replaced everything from 3 compressors, 2 airbags, 4 brake light switches, 2 valve block solenoids, battery, alternator- and just keep getting more faults! I wouldn’t go back to the Littleton Rover Dealership if someone paid me.... good luck. I will wait to see what your diagnosis is :) maybe it will shed light on my issue.
