I'd say you're asking for problems. Just replace the radiator, they aren't actually that expensive..... As Gaz has already said it could screw up the transmission cooler amongst other things.

The cooling system is really not something you want to take chances with, its one of the few things that failure of a £1 part can cause £5,000 worth of damage!

don't mess around with that in your coolant system.

If you can't find a a good deal on a new one, let us know.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. Thank you all for confirming my fear. I ordered the radiator and the new hoses. I'll replace it next week.

I just bought a Behr (original equipment) radiator from autopartswarehouse.com last week. Ordered it Friday night & it was on my doorstep the next monday night, free shipping. The radiator was under $300. But of course any additional parts (radiator hoses, coolant, etc.) are additional.
It is pretty easy to replace though, as radiators go.
But you did have one poster that said the bar leak type stuff has worked for him for 15,000 miles.
