Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and have just bought myself my first Range Rover! I've had Discoverys and Freelanders before, but never a Range Rover...

Anyway, it's a 99 P38, and I've got a couple of problems with it straight away... Not sure if any of them are connected to the same fault???

Firstly, it shows "Fuse 20 Failed" which is the the LH Seat, so obviously none of the power functions are working on the driver's seat. I replaced the fuse and all the functions of the seat seem to work again for a short while (about 3 or 4 minutes), and then it blows again... Sometimes it just blows without me even touching the seat controls. Any ideas what it may be?

Secondly, I've not been able to get the Cruise control working. I've checked the pipes and t-piece near the diaphram under the hood, and they SEEM to be OK, but I'm not sure what else to check...

Thirdly, the handbook and exclamation symbol is coming up on the heater control panel... Is there any way of running a check to find out what is causing that fault to come up? Or is it just a general message that comes up to say something isn't right, and I need to get the whole system checked?

Thanks for any help in advance...

Welcome, first off there are Three ways to solve your seat problem. There are two plugs/connectors under the seat easy to get to from the back. I would start with separating both the connectors, and then replace the fuse and see if it blows all by it self. If doesn't blow then put one of the connectors back together operate the seat and see what happens, and so on. Process of elimination. The other way to troubleshoot this and save on fuses is to remove the fuse use a DVM and check the motors and electrical to ground. The last way and my favorite is to buy a new seat..
As far as the book display you will need to have it hooked up to a Test Book (dianostic computer) to understand the issue there. Cruise control Mine doesn't work either! But I have not worked on it yet, there is a relay under the dash it could be bad there is also a ECU under the dash that controls the cruise it could be bad as well. You could try to pick up these parts used some where hmmmm  and give that a try.
Anyhow I hope was able to answer some of your questions. Oh by the way let search be your friend and think rave.

Thanks Scotty...

I'll try those plugs on the seat first as you suggested. And then work on it from there. There was a guy on here that I found (Mr Rover I think), that had exactly the same problem. But the thread ended without a solution.

I've got a Land Rover mechanic about 15 minutes from me that I plan to take the car to, to get checked over anyway, so I'll ask him to plug it in to the test book at the same time for the "handbook" fault.

Might have to live without cruise the moment

Thanks again! :thumb:

Fuse blow indicates there's a issue with the seat control unit (black box) and can be replaced, I'd dig for a 2nd hand unit.

Cruise control could be the pump unit, inside there is a relay that seals up a vacuum side and it leaks or it could be converter along with the cruise control unit next to it, also double check connection of pipe to brake pedal
Had a few where all three components failed, takes around 15mins
