I have acquired a small fuel tank that sits in between the rear wing and chassis, which will allow me to replace the regular petrol tank with LPG tanks. The small tank has a fairly small hole to mount the fuel pump - am I right in thinking that pre-1990 cars had a different pump to mine? I have the combined pump and level sender that is mounted by a big 'screw cap', but looking online it seems that earlier vehicles had a different setup.

So, is that correct? And if so, does anyone have one to hand that they can take some measurements from?

Yes the fuel pump changed, I think the 90s were the last year to use the old style unit. The new style was white and featured much more plastic.

Are you trying to determine which pump will fit in your new smaller tank?
I don't have any measurements, but maybe these images (the last in the set, showing the opened fuel pump hole) will be of help...
