Hello all, hope y’all having a nice weekend. Would replacing my front diff breather tube with a new and improved one (became available in 2009) make my slight diff whine, that is heard when I gently press the gas pedal, go away? It’s an 05 4.2 v8 with 180k miles on the clock. Thank you all in advance.

Highly unlikely. The breather tube is there strictly for expansion of the fluid and to keep water out. It is nothing more than a passive vent. If you diff whine you something else going on. When was your fluid changed?

Thanks for the reply. The diff fluid was changed in January 2015 and since then I’ve only put on about 25k miles. Thanks again.

The only way a breather tube could cause any issue is if it were plugged. The issue would be leaking seals due to heat expansion.
