Anybody have much experience of testing the flapper AFM?

I have two flapper airflow meters, the one fitted to my car and a spare that I got on Ebay. They both pass all the static resistance tests but I am puzzled when it comes to testing resistance between the relevant pins when moving the flap by hand. On both meters the resistance changes when pushing the flap, but resistance jumps around massively, both up and down. I expect resistance to climb up in leaps, but why would it drop right down when the flap is pushed further, and on both meters? Is this normal or is this a sign of potentiometer failure on both meters?

Thanks
