Hi, does anyone know the easiest way to get to the engine no.? I need to take a rubbing of it for changing the ownership papers here.

I assume on the P38 V8, number is located where the oil tube for dipstick goes into block on the left in center

Sure is. You will have to clean that engine as shiney as a new penny and the have a really good reaching marker/lead. It is MUCH easier to reach if you remove the heat shield assembly, but that is like pulling hens teeth or getting... well anyway, it's a pain. I was able to read mine with the cleaning method to verify that my engine was a special vehicles high compression version over a standard high compression or low compression version.

Yes, it's a V8. Would it be easier trying to get at it from underneath?
I'm also supposed to make a rubbing of the VIN too, which is right behind the windscreen! I tried on the identification plate next to the bonnet lock, but it's hardly readable. It'll have to do.
