Engine Light = P0154

Hi all,

The not very elusive engine light has come on again

I've borrowed a mates diagnostic unit and it read code P0154. After looking this up on http://www.troublecodes.net/OBD2/Pcodes.shtml#1000 it states
"P0154 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1)"

Firstly, can anyone confirm this is the correct definition for a 2003 L333 4.4 and secondly, can I fix it myself :? If so any help with a part number would be great.

Hi Gavin,

Yes, that's pretty much the same description given in RAVE. The actual wording is "RH bank front HO2S signal - No activity"

Part numbers are here :

Hi Phil,

Thanks. I've now change the 2 large hoses, the small hose and the actual seperator unit that they go into - the only one I haven't done is the long thin one as I ran out of time at the weekend. I'm also wondering if the oil from the K&N filter I fitted about 3 weeks ago as affected the MAF ?

I guess the next step is to replace the long thin pipe and see what happens. If I still get the errors then I think I'll ditch the K&N and finally swap out the sensor in the exhaust in case that actaully is the issue - any idea of the price for sensors from LR?
The front (pre-catalyst) heated oxygen sensors (MHK000210) cost around £50-£60 a piece from a dealer. I think the rear (main) sensors (MHK000220) are a teeny bit more expensive, but not much.

Because the DTC says 'no activity' you don't think that it might be a wiring/connector problem with that particular sensor do you?

Phil
Do you think that this error could have any corellation to the catalytic converter and/or a problem associated with that? Perhaps, perhaps - you may be eligible for a new one in regards to the extended warranty. I mean, my 2005 is now on it's second c.converter & I had a couple odd codes as well I think that was one of them (do not have them in front of me, they are in the Rover - I'm driving the loaner right now; a 'sweet' Jeep Patriot).
I had a similar light on a previous 2003 Range Rover and after much heartache it turned out to be Faulty Cats!
Ok, I've removed both plugs and cleaned up the connectors for sensors now. Will see if the light comes back on. The wiring looked Ok but the connectors were a bit dusty inside...we'll see....
Well after a round trip of about 150 miles all went well. Decided to treat it to a wash and brush up this afternoon and now after a short run out I now have the engine light back on again with a P0150 - O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1). It was running very lumpy but after I reset the code it's fine :?

Phil, is this the front (MHK000210) or back (MHK000220)one as I'm going to order a new one.

Gavin, it's the same (front RH) sensor as before - full list shown below.

Get you CATS checked at a MOT station.
Gazellio - have you had the same issue? I rather not even think about having the CAT replaced... I'd imagine that's ££££'s

Thanks Phil - RH being the drivers side here in the UK ? I don't want to pick the wrong one.

THree range Rovers ago I had a 2003 Vogue and kept getting Engine lights with various Oxy Sensor codes. It would stay off for three days after clearing but always came back after about 100 miles. This is the clue to it being the CATs rather than the sensors. Faulty sensors will make the light re-appear soon after clearing the codes surely?

Hopefully yours in just the sensors.

By the way no major problems with running on less than perfect CATs as long as you can put up with the engine light on. May well still pass MOT requirements (Mine did) just....
