So last night driving up a mountain road to a cabin we are staying at, the rover engine caught of fire with no warning. Not sure yet what the cause is, but this is very frustrating since I’m really good about maintenance on it.

Over 30 years I have only seen a few things cause fires and i am sure others can respond too.

1st was power steering pressure line squirting onto hot exhaust.
2nd, on a disco someone replaced an exhaust manifold and left the paper tag on the part. it caught fire and went from there.
3rd i have not seen in person but fuel leaks can always cause fire. I know a few manufacturers have had issues with the high pressure fuel rails cracking and leaking but this does not effect that engine platform in your car.

None of this relates directly to your Rover but just some ideas. Is your insurance going to inspect the car? be interesting to see what they think or find out.
