Hi, sufferring from this a bit recently. No real pattern just pings on. Does go ifI do steering reset or sometimes just turn off and on. Googled and most common probs seem to have trans fail safe not engine failsafe as in my case. Any suggestions???

I used to get alot of these when I brought mine. They've stopped now as have stopped taking car through car wash.

I've put mine down to water getting at some electrical components.. Don't know where but if I jet wash it down at home no problems and can't find any leaks anywhere.

To test my theory out I took it through the car wash a few weeks ago and by the time I got home same lights on. Taking battery off and resetting sorts the problem out most times.. If not got to let it dry out!

Does seem to happen more since the weather got colder but does not seem related to washing car. Does the engine failsafe prog mean something specific?

i was thinking battery. Does the engine failsafe prog message suggest anything specific as most people seem to get trans failsafe from researching?

check your fuses.. the brake light fuse.. also are the brake lights permanently on? if so the brake light fuse or brake pedal switch might be gone.. That will throw up the HDC inactive. and air suspension inactive , Similiar problem to what I had in June, in addition to the no go for car wash for me !

I ended up taking mine to the stealer, and they said with the brake switch gone - the HDC inactive will come on aswell as air susp inactive.

if its the switch get it from BMW its about half the cost... its an easy DIY install!

Dont think the brake lights are on perm but will check. If they are ok will it def not be the switch or could it still be the switch?

Think i may end up going to a RR specialist !! Is it cheaper to replace battery and switch or get it diagnosed?????

I recently had the similar symptoms (HDC inactive, air suspension locked and "lowered")... Mine also threw a transmission fault and although it was not in limp mode or locked to a gear, it would not let me switch gears in manual mode. Turns out my brake switch was bad.
