Electrical Problem

A little history to begin with. What I have is a 1999 4.0se with the bosch electrical system and about 161,000 miles on it.
I haven't drove it much this winter do to a air leak in the system and it is from what I can tell a none return valve in the valve bank. So about every seven to ten days I take it out for a five or six mile run to get it warmed up and then it sets for a while. Today I got in and put the key in the ignition, turned the key to the on position and none of the dash lights came :( , turned the key a little further and it started up ok and THEN the dash flashed ELECTRICAL FAULT, FUEL GAUGE FAULT, TEMP GAUGE FAULT, AIRBAG FAULT, AND BACK TO ELECTRICAL FAULT AND STAYED ON ELECTRICAL FAULT. So at this point the fuel gauge and temp gauge never moved and the little orange light was on in the fuel gauge and the red light was on in the temp gauge. Took it for a run and about a mile out all seemed to be ok for a second and then back to the faults a that is were it stayed. Got it back home and turned ignition key to the off position and pulled the key out and all the warning lights stayed on. This is a mystery to me and sure would like some insight from someone who might have a idea as to what is going on here and what to do to correct the problem. I have taken real good care of this but things like just happen. I do need to find a new home for this because I just don't have time for it anymore, to many other things to do.

Sounds like a weak battery, maybe alternator going bad. Have both checked ASAP. Dying alternator/battery will cause all kinds of "faults" to show, even though not really there, like "gearbox fault".
I should have figured this one out. I did know about how touche these are about having a good battery source. Brain dead I guess. That is I HOPE that the battery is the source of the problem as I now have the charger on it and is definitely is in need of a charge as it is holding at 5 amps on the charger. One has to remember that even when these rovers are just setting there a constant drain is coming off the battery to keep all the computers active and I think its more drain than one would expect . I would get a battery disconnect but resetting the windows is a real pain. I am just going to be a little more tentative about using this instead of just letting it set there for a week to ten days. Have a report later when the battery is fully charged and I might take it down to Wal-Mart and put it on the big computer battery tester. Buy the way if you do get a battery tested at Wal-Mart don't have them use the small portable unit go for the big tester that they have to place the battery in. Thanks or the feed back, always more the welcome to hear from the rover folks.

This afternoon I took the battery to two different places with what I would say are pretty up to date testers and the battery tested OK and so back in the rover it went and LOW AND BEHOLD everything is back to normal :thumb: , at least for now. Reset all the windows  so far so good, will check it out tomorrow to see what happens overnight.
Good idea; I am thinking that when the battery starts to loose its full or near full charge the computers sense this and its like people not having the right amount of carbohydrates, it affects there brain. Unless something is wrong this morning the electrical system seems to be back to normal  and maybe when I removed the battery for couple of hours and put in back in with a full charge it all reset itself.
:x :x Electrical Fault is back in full living color. 14.24 volts to the battery when running at idea and I don't know where to go from here. Ideas welcome, I hate to think its the BECM  There for a little while when I was planning a short trip to the next town it was going off and on but then just before I left it came on and stayed on so its home in the driveway.

I did make my trip to the next town in my Dodge Diesel PU and just got back and check to see how the rover acted and now its back to normal or ok, I hate to use the word normal as one my think normal as being broke down.

ANYONE INTRESTED IN A NICE 1999 BOSCH ROVER WITH 168,000 MILES ON IT CAN HAVE IT FOR $1000.00 CASH.
