Electrical help needed please

Hello, I have a 4.6 Hse model 1998 with GEMS engine.

My engine bay wiring loom has been modified (I don't know if this is an official range-rover modification or if this is done by a previous autogas installer), please help me to undo the modifications.
The specific loom runs from engine ECU at 1 end and the air temp sensor at the other end.

The 2 "Brown-orange" from EVAP purge valve and MAF sensor have been cut and at the ECU end they are also cut.
Reconnecting them at the MAF and EVAP end was easy because the 2 wires have a different gauge (1 is thicker than the other)
However at the ECU end of the loom the 2 wires have the same gauge so I can not see which one goes on nr.1 an nr.2.
I used a multimeter at the ECU end of the wires, to determine which wire corresponds to the MAF and which one correspons with the EVAP wire.
This is were I need help as I find continuity at both wires, which means there must be a connection between them somewere in the loom.
If this "Brown-Orange" wires are just "Ground" wires, then I don't have to worry as it doesn't matter how I reconnect them.
However, if they are common ground wires, why would they run 2 wires of the same colour instead of 1 wire?
(maybe this is to confuse the russians when spying on us haha)
1 clue that they have to be connected somewere is that the gauge from 1 wire changes from thin at the MAF end to thick at the ECU end.
In the case they are not supposed to be connected, I'll have to dig deeper and remove the inlet manifold and plenum and undo the loom to see were they did further modifications
I am not expirienced enough to read the electric diagrams in RAVE, so it would be very helpfull if someone could give me an idea.
Any help or idea is welcome.
Thanks,
Alex

THere should be no reason to remove the plenum. The harness should be screwed down next to the valve cover.

As far as the rest I would download RAVE from the internet and trace your wiring. THat way you may discover more changes made.
I would simply grab hold of a good 2nd hand wiring loom and take it from there and replace if need be..

To actually remove the loom next to the valve cover you have to undo alot of connectors (e.g. the one from ing.coils and the one between the cil. head and bulhead), furthermore, the loom is fixed between the valve cover and the cil.head with 2 bolts....in order to remove these bolts, the plenum has to be taken out.
Maybe you have the tools of a surgeon....
Sorry, forgot to mention I already have a copy of RAVE.
As said before I am not expirienced enough to really understand the diagrams. (Although I have been studying them for a few evenings now)
Regards,
Alex
 Apologeis, I meant to say no reason to remove the intake.
