Another post about the EAS... Yeah I know.
So here we go. I recently purchased a 97 Rover. One day 1the thing was as high as possible... bags fully inflated. It rode really "sloshy"
thats the best I can describe it. I told the guy I didn't like the ride feel. so, he lowered it..... don't ask me how. When I came back on
day two the truck was @ normal or so hight and rode great. Everything is cool with the truck but it is in hard fault mode. SLOW 35 miles.
Now the guy didn't wanna tell me how he lowered the truck and got it to stay. It doesn't go up or down. Also on the side of the compressor
theres a box missing. There are some lines and plugs that are just there. Can anyone tell me what that missing box is? Or even how that guy managed
to get the suspention to stay put? (i asked and he wouldn't tell) He just said "Oh its possible" (DUHH. im starring right @ it. But how?!)
I would like to return it to stock but if its to much of a hassle I might consider coil springs. Any thoughts or input would be appriciated

That sounds like the valve block has been taken out and its on an emergency system.

If you just brought ti then it should be either:
A **** good price
He pays to sort make it right
or
You get your money back

If he sold it as air suspention working then its false representation

Something odd going on with your purchase :!: :!: .Sounds as if the PO has something to hide and you could potentially have a dangerous vehicle, not to mention insurance problems if something goes wrong.Where are you located?.Hopefully someone from the forum is near to you and would have a quick look to see what has been done. :naughty:

A picture of the suspect components would be great.

Here's a pic of my RR. It sits at that hight, never goes up or down. Im located in pomona Ca. I'm pretty hands on and do most of my own work but this is my first time working with
an air ride suspension. Anybody know of a good honest shop that can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Hi

The request for a picture was from the EAS components and the missing box. This would greatly help us to tell you what it should look like and what is missing or installed as not standard.

Normally the EAS is valve block and compressor are consealed in a box. See the following pages for details: http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetail ... block.html
http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetail ... essor.html

In the first link the box in the photo's are from the classic RR. In the second link you see the photo's of the box with the components from the P38 RR.

Regards

Jos

Everything above the airfilter housing on mine is missing. I think the compressor is there but again I'll have a photo up tonight for sure. Thanks for ur time everyone.

Here it goes. I'm actually gonna meet with the guy that sold it to me in the morning. Apperently he would find the truck on the bump stops every morning and this was the solution.
Can anybody tell me what that starter shaped thing on the left of the picture is? I'll post again tomorrow and let everyone know how it went and where I'm at as far as operation "Fixing my EAS" is concerned

those air lines do not look capped, so how is his air bags being inflated?

Unless the garage have cut the lines and put a manual fill point somewhere.
I'd be thinking what else have they done apart from the EAS?

as Shupack says "Definitely sounds dodgy, if it wasn't a great price, take it back "

That ´starter shaped´ item to the left in your picture is the ABS pump and it has a fist sized ball mounted on top of it.

When you first turn the key on (without starting the engine) you can hear the pump working as it builds up pressure for the brakes. Once the pump has stopped (reached maximum pressure) and you press the brake pedal - does the pump start up again or do you need to press the brakes several times to make it kick in again?

Just thinking that maybe there might be other things that he hasn´t or won´t tell you about.

There are some lines that look like there looped together. u can kinda see them up toward the top of the photo. Sorry it isn't clearer (camera phone). I'll take a pic with a quality camera tomorrow. Also I'll look under the seat and take a picture of that too while im @it. Well I gotta meet this guy in 9 hours and I still havent been to bed. Everybody's been really helpful so far. Thanks. Any other thoughts are appreciated. I'll check back before I leave my house in the morning. Also I got the truck for 6K. US..... too much?
Just saw that last post and with the key in the "on" position i can hear something cycle (about a second or two) and it will do that every minute or so. Don't know what happens if i push the brakes.......let me find out............................. ok for those of you not in beautiful SO.CAL....it raining also it 1:30 am. but I digress. With the key to the on position it cycled then @17 seconds later cycled again. After that I counted 25 seconds between cycles. And yeah every time I push the brakes it cycles. This is normal right? Please tell me its normal.... Thanks for the info Rowant

F'n butcher.... That's uglier than a back alley nose job....grrrrr

the ABS is in need of a new accumulator, one positive note, it's MUCH easier to replace with the EAS box out of the way.

I can sortof see the manual fill attachment in the top of the photo, the 8mm line hanging down is for the dryer, but you'll need to replace atleast that as it's been cut instead of properly removed. I'd guess it's the same for the remaining lines. Atleast he didn't cut the wires...

If even ride then more likely their are coils under it, Have you checked for air springs or coil springs? Why can I not see the accumulator "ball"-I'll look again.

ouch! he really butchered that one and totally misrepresented the truck if he said the EAS works. it will cost a lot of money and headache to rebuild it. at that point, if it doesn't already have coils, you need them.

for 6K you should get a functional, decent truck. granted, I got a great deal, but I spent $7200 for a 2001 in excellent condition with functional and rebuilt EAS along with many of the common p38 problems taken care of.

get your money back. you have no idea what else is wrong with the truck if he blatantly wouldn't tell you how he lifted/lowered the truck. very sketchy.... :naughty:

be patient and look at lots of trucks. you will eventually find a gem.

Just a tad....

3-4k because If your having these issues now I bet you have 3 more things

1. Is the a little book illuminated on your A/C panel
2. Check seat heaters (back and bottom sections)
3. make sure the check engine light hasn't been removed. Do you see it when you first turn the key, all lights come on for testing i think. If this guy removed pieces of the EAS system , willing to bet he knew how to remove a light bulb.

Ok so I've been busy and stuff so I haven't had time to post. First off let me thank everyone for your time and help. Here is the pic. from under my seat. Can any1 tell me if anything is outta place of maybe if I didn't capture the right angle or something.

And ok U guys asked some questions and here go some of the answers. Yes the truck has bags

This thing loggs me off every 2 minutes and the I have to retype my posts
Ok first of all ...The book on the AC panel :?: went outside to check and yup its illuminated. What the hell does that mean? By the time anybody posts a reply I bet I will have already found the answer but please feel free to stab me in the heart with the answer.
Next: the heated seats. I push the button and nothing. The orange light comes on but the only heat is from my ass. Again what does mean? Other than my but has to warm up its own seat.
And last but not least the check engine light works. It comes on with the key in the "ON" position and goes out a second or two after start up.
One last thing. I spoke with the guy that sold it to me and we came to the agreement that he would track down the missing EAS commponents (used of course) (but in good working order too) and he would return the truck back to stock. Now if the news you guys have for me isn't all that bad and I think I might enjoy keeping this truck. I've been driving it around for about 4 days now again the bags never go down and it handles great. Its slower than I'd like, but then my other car is a Mustang ( thats for another forum). I really enjoy the RR just gonna have learn alot of things quickly. Thanks again for the info every1
