I've searched on the forum for a particular problem I am experiencing with the wifes 2001 rangie but have not come across it. The problem is, usually in the morning, that the truck lifts up to the extended profile setting. Sometimes just the front while the rear stays in the normal mode. Other times the rear lifts to high profile and still at other times it joins the front and lifts to extended profile. This was the case this morning. After turning the truck on I went inside to grab my things. Coming out I notice the rig up to the extended profile mode with the high profile button blincking. I'm thinking it's the front height sensors since the compressor also seems to be running consistently. Any ideas or verification it could be the sensors. Forgot to mention the rising to extended profile has also happened when driving. Rig bouncing up and down like some crappy low-rider.

I'll support a coil conversion in few cases, and recommend one in fewer....(Scotty :evil: )

A valve block rebuild should do it, or rule out the mechanicals.

Actually, I always forget about the most obvious one, swap out relay 20. If the relay sticks the comp will still run when the ECU tries to shut it off, so when it tries to lower it will go up instead...

Easier fix and more likely it.

A few months ago I installed your valve block rebuild Oring kit along with the pressure switch. Last September I replaced my old compressor with the aftermarket Thomas compressor (model # 337CD50/12), same as the one Jsmooth65 intalledl. I know about the same time (last sept.) the dealership told me I needed to replace the front height sensor. This I haven't done. Maybe I should try this along with your suggestion of swapping out relay 20. Thanks for the help - Eddie

The 337 compressor is too much for the design of the P38 EAS valve block, in other words its too restrictive, I fitted one and the reed valve gave in from heat.

The 327 is without question more suitable due to its lower air flow which in turn wont over burden the compressor and the diaphragm which is easily torn by heat and force from the 337.

As it stands I now have a 337 compressor that resides in my boot as a glorified tyre inflator come stand by unit....327 all the way

Apart from some interesting development work in progrees with relocating the EAS system to the rear I have managed to crack the whole nonsense of the compressor pumping through the valve block but instead to pump direct to tank, more info on the blog next week....

You've stated this a couple times now, but you seem to be the only one who has had a problem with it. I think there are at least 5 of us on here who have had it for over a year with no problems. Not to say that they won't come up, but I wonder if yours had some other sort of issue with it. :think:

Thanks for the info everyone. My compressor does run more than it should. It runs for a few seconds then stops for about 5-8 seconds then turns on again for a few more seconds (10-15 seconds). Keeps doing this over and over. While it does this the front raises a little, then when it stops it lowers down. I just though the reason was either due to the front height sensor(s) I never replaced or for reasons Dennis mentions above. Again, thanks to all for the advice and personal experiances.
