It could be pretty neat as long as your pixels are working ... but personally, I'd rather just plug a general purpose device into the diagnostics port.
This appears to be a very nice interface. It clearly uses the Ibus in addition to the diagnostic bus. I considered pursuing somthing like this, but the ibus is isolated form the OBDII port. So any device would require tapping into the ibus at a different location than the OBDII port. If everything could be done at the OBDII port, it would be a great idea.
It is an amazingly elegant and clever solution. When I think about it, I really am impressed. A new vehicle ECU has been created for the sole purpose of communicating with the EAS diagnostic functions. I love clever solutions.
