I have a '13 Sport HSE Lux and unsure if I have the ability to simply add a brake controller via a harness or if I have a bigger project. It has the quick hitch adapter but I installed my own aftermarket hitch. There's not a visible trailer light connection.

Please put where you are located in your info box.

Most likely the hitch receiver was bought and installed by the previous owner for a bike rack: I had the same one on all of my LR products since 05. When you reach up under the fender, if you don't find wires and connector for hooking up a trailer, you don't have that component. It is avail from your local dealer or any good trailer outfit (UHaul) can configure it for you. The dealer unit is plug and play but expensive.

Remove the 2 screws under the center cover on the rear bumper. You can do it with a quarter, or if your not that well off a penny or nickle will do. There you will find a wiring connector if it has had it installed. On 2012 and 13 have part of the harness from the factory but you will have to add the tail end of the wiring. it can be done with aftermarket harness. As for a brake controller you can get a plug n play for it to wire into the factory plug under the dash.

See my previous post for the wiring instructions. i will post a link.
