I am looking at buying a post 2010 Range Rover sport and was wondering what the differences are between the 2010/2011 model and the 2012 model. Apparently they have small differences and I was wondering what they were.

Don't have a list of changes made, except one big one: Somewhere in the 2012-2013 MY run, Land Rover introduced modified timing chain guides and tensioners to correct a problem with premature wear. If you do find a 2011-12 that you really get interested in, have a good listen under the hood while it's at idle and under revving. It will be pretty obvious if the TC will need attention, and it's not cheap to have corrected. You may want to shoot for peace of mind and step up to 2012-13 only. There is a list somewhere that has the breakdown by VIN of affected models.

Having said that, our 2011 non-SC has 80k miles and the engine is pretty quiet still. The problem seems to be more common with the supercharged version.

Good luck.

Good info. I just traded in my Jaguar for a 2011 RRS HSE Lux so I’ll be keeping an ear on that noise. I did pick up a warranty so hopefully I’m covered if it needs attention.

XJ8? The reason we bought the RRS is because my wife tapped someone and it crumpled the hood so they totalled it. Man I miss that car, but the HSE Lux has taken the sting out of it.

Off subject, but me too. Had to sell my 01 XJ8L, knees gave out and I couldn't get out of the car. Saw a 13 HSE on the local Maserati lot, traded. Two years later, new knees and cranky sounds (maybe fuel pump, maybe tensioners - tensioner wars on the 4.0L Jag in front of the brain), traded it for a new Lincoln continental. Almost exact size as the 308 long body; 335 horses from a twin turbo V-6; nearly as good a ride (I had totally upgraded the suspension on the Jag), with a new car warranty. Plus some camera and sensor-related safety features which helps old guy like me not getting killed. And no noise . . .

I traded a Jaguar S-Type R Supercharged which ran great at 147,000 miles. I am enjoying the 2011 RRS as I get to know the car better.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I see I'm not the only 1 who loves a RRS AND a JAG! I still have my Jag, as I just can't part with her...

Also, to stay on par with the thread, the 12-13's implemented Bluetooth Audio, the Tailgate is 1 piece & power lift, versus the 2 piece gate, plus it has the Bar going across the rear with letters atop, versus the little lip sticking out from the upper glass on the lift gate & the letters on the Bottom over the Bumper; (as you can see, mine is a Conversion, hence the Double Letters which I like) but yeah, those are the more noticeable things. Again, I know I'm late to the party, but I'm sure this question will be googled plenty more times! 8)

Darn you, now I miss our XJ8 all over again! Ours was silver with black interior. Finest car I've ever driven on a road trip, it was like riding in a Lear Jet with fantastic fuel mileage. I think that last XJ body that still looked like a Jaguar will go down as the best looking XJ of all time.
