I have been loosing small amounts of coolant recently and could not work out where it was going. So yesterday I added a small amount of dye to the coolant, the sort you use to check water flow in drains etc. I ran the engine up to normal operating temperature on a short drive and then left car standing on the drive. Sure enough the leak was highlighted as the top hose connection at the block end. This morning I have stripped it off expecting the hose to be perished but to my horror the brass pipe coming out of the cylinder head has a 1cm sq piece missing really close to block. See pic.

Is it possible to repair this in-situ ? my thought was to extract the old pipe and tap in a new one, if you can even get them? Any help or advice would be great.
