Dash lights and Climate Control lights pulsate with engine idle

Hello. Newbie to the site with a 1998 4.0 Gems with recent head gasket replacement by me. At will and any rpm, the hvac display and dash display will pulsate/flicker with idle. The hvac display will actually turn on and off too. Checked all ground points in engine bay and ok. Battery light is not on so do not suspect alternator unless ??? Heard Becm's are issues but can that cause these symptoms? Any help or suggestions r appreciated and thanks!

Re: Dash lights and Climate Control lights pulsate with engine idle

Hi

Check the voltage output of your alternator with a scope. Most likely there is something wrong with the voltage regulator of your alternator. I have had the same problem and changed the alternator. I had an ECU failure most likely caused by the fluctuations in the supply voltage so I can only advice you not to continue with the car in this condition.

Regards

Jos

Had that a number of years ago, alternator failed 2 days later.

Definitely check the alternator as advised above.

Had the same type of issue with my old discovery, it was the alternator.
