Hi Guys,

I need some advise as my front left CV is noisy turning hard in the parking lot;
Best place to source?
Aftermarket OK?
Any surprises in store for DIY?

Thanks in advance!

My p38 has been bomb proof, lurked here extensively pre purchase but have been luck not having to lean onu guys tilll now.

Cheers,

Its pretty straightforward, the boot was a PITA when I did mine but that was from putting too much grease in it. Having a vice will make your life a lot easier when removing the joint from the half shaft. AB has the joint for $300, autopartswarehouse lists an aftermarket one for $237 with free shipping and a 1yr warranty. The AB one doesnt state whether its a genuine part or not. Get the boot kit from NAPA, its only $18 compared to $50 at AB. Good luck.

Thanks that helps,
what about fixing the boot itself? Special tools
to crimp?

Thanks

For the boot you'll need a cv boot clamp tightening wrench and cv clamp pliers. I rented them from autozone, as I felt it would have been a waste to buy them.

OK the list on the CV itself is $380 and "my price"is $320
There is a listing for a re manufactured assembly that includes the boot and the inner shaft, and this is quite reasonable at $120. Unfortunatly there is no stock on this side of the planet.....
Anyone else have a re manufacturer they might recommend? I want to make this a straight forward re and re given the cold weather and my lack of a garage to work in...

You may want to add your location to your profile. That would aid others in suggesting parts suppliers.
Sure that might be helpful....
I am in Toronto Ontario Canada.
