Can you replace the crankshaft bearing by just removing the oil pan?

The crankshaft bearing is not an "it" it is a "they". Although possible, it leaves much to the forces of gravity, work space and sobriety. If the crank bearings are shot you might as well to piston bearings at the same time. Appx $150 for all. I would add the $18 for a new rear seal. THen there are the new Dowty washers $20. If your bearings are shot you should check timing chain and camshaft. THe list goes on.... You can do an entire bottom (including rings) for under $1200 easily.

It is 500% easier to just pull the engine with a rented lift and stand and do it all correctly. You can clean everything up, seal you pan properly and take car of any leaks or other maintenance while you are at it.
