As to matching.. I had a new key from Britain with an incorrect blade.
Rather than pay in 2 x transport and customs I just kept it and ordered another one for my client.

The wrong blade one I used 2 years later on a different car, as it happens a 4.6 2000 MY one. It was for a 1997 diesel.

So yes it can be done. Even with a second hand one.

Fobs...You can buy them from LR UK
As to the signal.. sure a primitive oscilloscope does the job, I have an old Metex multimeter that does the trick.

Also you can do it with the frequency option on your multimeter.

Frankly.. I guess it is time somebody looks at that BECM

On the fob issue, yes, you may be able to get them from the UK. Unfortunately, they will not be on the correct frequency for NAS systems.
I have a old friend who is a master parts man for pretty much all old British motors, and he scoured the Land Rover North America parts system to see if there were any more NAS fobs out there. No single fobs available, just the aforementioned full lock and key kits, which for a grand, if you needed new locks and had no fobs, are not that bad a deal...............

Anyone out there who knows of any new NAS fobs out there in the distribution chain? I could use a second one for mine

Got it on the CPS test, it's just that most folks have never used the frequency function of their multi-meter, assuming they have one.
I am lucky, I can use the venerable Fluke Scope-meter......

Possibly, a more detailed description of your test procedure for those who have never done this?
Cheers!

Thanks Annette,

In the mean time do you see any value in changing the crank position sensor yet,? seams like dealing with the codes should be first, there is one mechanic on the north Island I will speak to tomorrow about the falutmate or Hawkeye,

thank you again

Thank you all for your time and effort,
I feel like a fool, did not know to navigate to page two/ on board now, so my last couple post were off,

So , I will take off the CPS to create the test and if it fails order one, not sure I fully understand the process for the test but will give it a shot,
apologize for falling behind on the threads

Cheers,

Regarding fobs.
OK here is the good news.. any key for Central america will do for you, same frequency as up north.
I will have a look around

As I could order them from Bearmach for my clients I am sure there is a way.

Here is how to test a CKP Multimeter needed.

connect whatever FINE probe you fancy to the back of the plug . on the early one it is 11 and 12. Ask somebody to try to start and read frequency.
if there isn't one, it is dead.

2 nd method, if it is already out.

connect you meter probes to the connectors. Put a hex nut or a hinge in your electric drill and approach the skp sSlowoooowly. at about 3-5 mms you get a reading.

Now that is a very interesting angle!!
Had not thought to check South of the border for fobs.
Please let me know what you find out. I am sure others will be interested to know as well.
Cheers!

Cranks but wont start - 1997 p38 gems motor

I sorted quite a bit out since owning this vehicle. Did the fuse box fix and everything was going great. Had an alternator issue and sorted that one out.... now I have an issue of a no crank no start.
Checked power at starter 12.5 volt, bypassed relay and motor spins but when placing relay 19 (SM)back in place no crank again. IF I take relay 21 out and place back in I get key crank but no start.

Could use some help on this one.

No CEL on dashboard ever and not sure what it is but never saw it gefore.

Thanks in advance
