I'm in the process of replacing the timing chains, guides, and Vanos seals. I finally got the Jesus bolt off with the right tools and now I need to remove and eventually replace the crank seal in the lower timing cover.

My question is, can I use a generic seal tool kit or must I buy the tools specified in the Rave manual?

Thanks.

No one?

I ordered a Lisle 58430 seal puller and a "good" generic seal puller and installer kit off Amazon. It arrives this afternoon. I should have the lower timing cover off this evening and the camshaft locking tool installed.

This weekend I'll remove all the chains, guides, and Vanos units. Hopefully I'll have the Vanos seals replaced and all the new components installed.

The following weekend I'll put it all back together. That's the plan anyway, provided that I can get 10-12 hours to work on it after playing Uber driver with my 13 year old twins (music, Boy Scouts, airsoft, you name it). :)
