Hi all,

I noticed the other day that going from 5th to 6th manually and under power results in a clunky gearchange.

It doesn't happen in Auto mode, nor does it happen off-throttle or when coasting, only when accelerating (even slightly).

The dealer did a transfer box double-flush and said they couldn't pick up anything abnormal, nor was there any play in the props.

Anything else it could be? Or am I just imagining things?

thanks

Maybe check U-joints for play, mainly to rule them out
thank, will take it to my local indie shop.

If it was the UJs, wouldn't the clunk happen all the time? My worry is that it only does it under acceleration.

Why would they suspect the transfer case if it only happens on the 5-6 shift? I would think it's the transmission. Also a ujoint issue wouldn't be specific to the 5-6 shift. It has to be the tranny.

I dunno, LR dealers are usually clueless.

I will take it to the local ZF workshop for a diagnosis.

Have you changed the transmission fluid?
It was changed in June 2018 when I bought the car, it had 66000km on the clock.

While waiting for a slot at ZF, I will reset the gearbox and see if that helps

Hopefully a clean dose of new Tranny fluid and it's fresh additives will take care of the problem Naks. I'm almost betting it will unless you have something pretty serious going on in there...of which, you would have noticed long ago knowing how in tune you are to your Rover.
