Hi all,
I have a RRS 2008 2.7 HSE which makes a clunking noise coming from the front end if I brake suddenly or drive over uneven road. Please can someone tell me what the most likely cause is and what it is likely to cost to fix. Is it a good idea going to the main 'stealers' with this problem or a local independent garage?
Regards,
Joy.

Couple of things:

Check the A-arms. Sudden braking is the test for determining if the bushings are worn out. It will also lead to sloppy steering/wandering on the road, as well as premature tire wear.

Check the sway bar bushings and linkage.

Check the ball joints.

Last - and least likely to create that noise - check the hub bearings.

Indy garage all the way.

Control arm, specifically front lower control arm. I Replaced the entire lower arms and corrected the problem.
