Similar to someones question about seats. I have a 02 P38 that needs a new climate control (as the screen dosen't work well) Now will one work in my '02 that came out of a 96 range rover.
They both seem the same etc. can't see what they did differently betwwen the two (a 96 and a 02) both seem the same.

If I'm not mistaken it will work but, you need to install the 2002 outside sensor at the front of the car. At one point I did this myself but found my 96 was not broken the blubs had burned out. I have that outside sensor you need what is the problem with your display, if your stuck on replacing it, I'll trade the sensor for your broken display.

The actaul screen is broken some pixcels work sometimes but not all at once. I tried the fix that is on this website here somewhere, it helped the screen but not much then it went back to how it was. I bought the one on ebay for a '96 so will see how it goes from there.
It seemed the same part but wanted to make sure as they didn't seem to of changed the design between 96 and 02.
