My mechanic called and told me the ABS-pump needs to be changed.

A new one costs 3500£, where as a used one will cost me 90-150£. So yeah, I am going for a used oned.

But can I just buy a used one, or does it need to be refurbished or deprogrammed or something?

Grateful for any answers

What model year is your Rover? BMW era ones, you can swap in the ABS/DSC pump from identical model, not sure if this is the case with 2006-onward.
Also, there are plenty of places that will rebuild your pump and/or ABS/DSC control unit for reasonable amount, maybe that's a better way in go for a long run.

When mine went bad i sent it to Canada to be refurbished. Unfortunately, it was an electrical failure within the unit and they couldn't repair it.

I bought a used one but had to take the truck to my indy shop so they could turn the ABS light off. My code reader wouldn't allow me to turn it off.
