my truck never had those, at some time they were broken off. looks like all you need is a coarse screw.

Tunnel vision..why did I not think of that! Thanks. If I don't have a screw available, then I'm sure some strong double-sided tape will work.

They are used everywhere on landrovers especially on defenders. Unfortunately I can't remember what they are called! (Something) nut iirc.
They vary in size though.

If it's a square hole? Try landrover locknut on ebay.as an example, the front mudflaps on my 38 used exactly the same lockouts as held the grill on my 110 which I had in my spares draw.

Not sure what bit it is that you are missing, but if it is part 17 on this picture, it is a standard U nut, also known as a speednut.
