Hey so I went to my local parts store and bought a fuel filter so I can replace the one on my p38 but once I got under the car I couldn’t find it anywhere. I went on google and found the location of where it should be but it’s not. I see the gas line coming from the gas tank but there isn’t a hanger for the fuel filter and it’s just not there. Any suggestions on where it might be

That is right.
In case fuel is particularly bad in your part of the world (seeing the canister you might be in Canada or US) or have a US import.. put the bug inline filter from the GEMS model into the line. Won't do any harm whatsoever.

It annoys me that parts stores sell the filters to unsuspecting people, even the Land Rover parts sites here will bring up a external filter from 99 onwards, as it’s incorperated into the pump there must be many of them sitting around in people’s garages,,
