I have gotten the amber "brake pads worn" light, so I know I need to replace the pads, but I am unsure if I should also replace the rotors. Shopping around to decide where to take it. Is turning these rotors a thing? Also, I saw a recc for Porterfield brake pads somewhere. Does anyone have experience with those?

I wouldn't bother turning the rotors but you could always stick a caliper on them to measure if they are in spec. That is the only way to check. You haven't mentioned front or back or both. I have the brembos and the front cost me $500 to replace including rotors (i did them, brembos are easy) but my mechanic would have done them for the same amount - oh well. Buy good quality OEM Rover rotors and i went with some brembo pads. Dusty MOFOS for sure but stop great. If you are non brembo might be a little less or significantly cheaper if you do them.
