Brake pad wear warning sensor wire

I’ve just replaced the front discs and brake pads on my 2003 Range Rover after the pad wear warning light & message were displayed on the dash.

I can recall several posts on the forum where people have asked whether they can simply reset the warning light once the pads have been renewed, only to be told that they have to replace the pad wear sensor wires too. I’ve attached a few photos below to show why.

The top picture shows where the end of the sensor wire slots into the pad (shown not pushed fully home). The second photo shows a worn pad and sensor – you might just be able to make out the two contacts that have been exposed as a result of the sensor wearing away, which causes the warning light & message to be activated. Two views of a new sensor are shown in the last photo.

(The sensor wires fitted after 2006 are different to the one shown in the photos)
