New pads at 30K miles is entirely conceivable, but $1000 for just pads is highway robbery. Most likely that quote also includes front discs, perhaps the rear ones too since dealers jus6t love to replace them as often as brake pads - even though they are often just fine and may just need to be turned over... More money for them. I'd tell them to forget about it and either bring the car to an indy shop for a second opinion and a more honest price (a reputable one using OEM parts though, not a Midas) or do the job yourself if you are so inclined.
