Hi,

Over the weekend I bought a 2009 RR SC. I was able to find most of the issues before the sale so was able to drop the price quite a bit, but now I have a number of issues to start addressing. While I'm coming up to speed and learning where the find the right places to look, I'd appreciate some early help from the experts.. Here is my list of issues that I know about so far. Feel free to comment, post links, or yell at me to Google this stuff first . I'm a noob now, but learn fast.

First of all, there appears to be some play in the steering, but honestly I'm not entirely sure what it is supposed to feel like. I keep having to compensate slightly to get it to track straight. It isn't much so I'm guessing the bushings are starting to fail.

The driver's mirror doesn't want to move. I haven't checked the fuse because the window works fine. My guess is the mirror motor has failed, but won't know until I pull the door card and check it out. Any advice before I start tearing into this?

The glove box doesn't pop open when pressing the buttons. The buttons work but I have to pull the doors open. I assume that this is going to come down to removing the glove box doors and lubricating with some sort of plastic to plastic lube (PTFE based?). Might need to replace tension springs, but will find out once I get them off. Is this a common problem with a simple fix?

This RR must have been ordered without the back seat entertainment system. There is no DVD changer in the back. It looks like a previous owner tried to install aftermarket headrests with self-contained dvd screens with wireless headphones. Seems like a good kit, but the headrests were installed improperly - they don't want to move with the switches. Actually one of them does move up, but not down - the other won't move at all. Where do I find documentation on how to break down the seats so I can try to fix this? Also, seems that the person who installed these broke one of the clips on the seat back. I think I have been able to track down a part number and a good price online, but are some online retailers better than others? Feel free to PM me if this is not a good subject to discuss.

I found out this morning that the Nav screen back light is a little flaky when it is cold. Does anyone know what LCD panel is used so I can order a new one? If not I'll pull the screen first. Being able to minimize time w/o a screen would be nice though.

Finally, is there a service manual I should purchase for this? I see there is a LR web site I can sign up for, but it isn't exactly clear what all this provides. Is it possible to get an actual book to put on the shelf? Or do they expect you to always have a computer/tablet around? I did order an IIDTool. Anything else I might want to get?

I appreciate any help you can give me as I start to get up to speed with the RR community. Cheers.

For a manual, look at the "Start Here" sticky at the top of the page. There's nothing available free for your model year, but you'll still get a lot of help from RAVE for systems that have remained unchanged. I can't help with any of the other questions.

Incorrect. The 2007-2010 factory manual is available on the web for free download.

I was under the same impression as @JerrytheK. I looked at the rave.zip file from landroverresource.com, but it claims it is only valid for vehicles up to 2004.

Is there a different manual somewhere? From what I can find there is no book so i will need to use a computer. This RAVE package is at least searchable and indexed so there is probably a lot I can use, but it seems to be somewhat out of date.

Unfortunately the FAQ post for the L322 doesn't have much in it. There is a lot of information on the main rangerovers.net web site, but frankly it is information overload. This is where some early hand holding would go a long way. I know it is annoying so I will pay the favor forward and help others when I get my feet under me.

Definitely easier when you know what you are looking for. After seeing the link and thinking about it for a sec, a search for "L322 Service Manual" shows it at the 10th spot. Regardless, this link was much appreciated.

I also signed up for a day pass on topix to see how the interface is there. Easy enough to blast through the site ripping sections in HTML, so I might write a grabber to rip an interactive HTML copy too. I'd definitely prefer a paper copy to keep on the shelf but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

With regards to your door mirror, you don't need to muck about with the door cards. If it is the mirror motor faulty, open the door, there is a triangular shaped plastic cover immediately behind the mirror. It just pops off and then there is 3 nuts and a plug to undo. When I changed my mirror, it took me 5 minutes.

Oh, very cool, thanks. I even looked briefly at the RAVE & topix sections for this but apparently not very closely. It sounds like it is worth popping that cover off and checking the plug. I replaced the mirror motor in my BMW E46 a few weeks ago and it was a royal PITA (I replaced the motor and not the mirror assembly).. For some reason I thought this would be about the same.

Do both (or either) door mirrors' outer assemblies fold inwards when you press that button on the driver's door switch pack?

Is it the driver side mirror lens itself which doesn't adjust?

Does the passenger side mirror lens deflect downwards upon selecting reverse?

Thanks for your response. Everything seems to work except for the driver's mirror motor. The mirrors both fold in and out fine, the passenger mirror moves freely, and it also tilts down for reverse. I had forgotten about the folding feature.. Since it works, it makes me think it isn't as simple as the plug working its way free. I have found a replacement motor for $95 so I may just go for it, although I'll throw my multimeter and/or scope on the plug anyway to make sure it is receiving the signals.

Although there isn't a mirror specific guide these guys have some very useful information regarding certain items you'll likely be removing or installing on your new ride.

I've found their videos to be very helpful both in the time-saving department and the unintended damage because I'm ignorant of a particular hidden holding trim clip department (which I overlooked when I read the Topix info).

http://www.powerfuluk.com/videofittingguides.html

Just be aware that your later year L322 based vehicle is an updated (a mix of mostly Jaguar/Ford funded upgrades with some carried over BMW designed parts) version rather than the mostly BMW based/sourced items as shown in several of these videos.

Hope that helps.

Now, on to the next issue.

Do you have a picture of the aftermarket DVD headrests?

For reference, I believe I have found the LCD touchscreen part number: LQ070Y5DG01

After looking around for a while, this is the best place I found to buy it:

Once the screen arrives I'll do the swap and hopefully have a non-flaky nav screen.

No, not handy, but I'll post one shortly. They do look nice, so it will be nice to get them installed properly so they work with the up/down motor.

Also, thanks for the link to the videos. I'll definitely take a look.

Just to be clear.....

The DVD players and screens work but the headrests don't adjust up and down correctly?

Is that what you're wanting to remedy?

Rob

Nice interior color BTW.
