Hi,
Over the weekend I bought a 2009 RR SC. I was able to find most of the issues before the sale so was able to drop the price quite a bit, but now I have a number of issues to start addressing. While I'm coming up to speed and learning where the find the right places to look, I'd appreciate some early help from the experts.. Here is my list of issues that I know about so far. Feel free to comment, post links, or yell at me to Google this stuff first . I'm a noob now, but learn fast.
First of all, there appears to be some play in the steering, but honestly I'm not entirely sure what it is supposed to feel like. I keep having to compensate slightly to get it to track straight. It isn't much so I'm guessing the bushings are starting to fail.
The driver's mirror doesn't want to move. I haven't checked the fuse because the window works fine. My guess is the mirror motor has failed, but won't know until I pull the door card and check it out. Any advice before I start tearing into this?
The glove box doesn't pop open when pressing the buttons. The buttons work but I have to pull the doors open. I assume that this is going to come down to removing the glove box doors and lubricating with some sort of plastic to plastic lube (PTFE based?). Might need to replace tension springs, but will find out once I get them off. Is this a common problem with a simple fix?
This RR must have been ordered without the back seat entertainment system. There is no DVD changer in the back. It looks like a previous owner tried to install aftermarket headrests with self-contained dvd screens with wireless headphones. Seems like a good kit, but the headrests were installed improperly - they don't want to move with the switches. Actually one of them does move up, but not down - the other won't move at all. Where do I find documentation on how to break down the seats so I can try to fix this? Also, seems that the person who installed these broke one of the clips on the seat back. I think I have been able to track down a part number and a good price online, but are some online retailers better than others? Feel free to PM me if this is not a good subject to discuss.
I found out this morning that the Nav screen back light is a little flaky when it is cold. Does anyone know what LCD panel is used so I can order a new one? If not I'll pull the screen first. Being able to minimize time w/o a screen would be nice though.
Finally, is there a service manual I should purchase for this? I see there is a LR web site I can sign up for, but it isn't exactly clear what all this provides. Is it possible to get an actual book to put on the shelf? Or do they expect you to always have a computer/tablet around? I did order an IIDTool. Anything else I might want to get?
I appreciate any help you can give me as I start to get up to speed with the RR community. Cheers.
