Gang,

Just purchase a Thule Roadway 912 2-bike bike carrier. After an hour of grunting and cursing I am starting to think I either purchased the wrong carrier or I am missing some key piece of equipment.

First, what size is my hitch? Carrier says it is for 2" and 1.25" hitches. Just checked the manual. No luck. Called the local LR dealer also. No help.

Second, is there a better carrier I should have purchased?

Here's an image of my Thule bike rack:

As I mentioned in the thread, it does fit and the rear hatch opens with only a a small bit of cutting to the bike rack.

Norval - Is this the 912 Roadway model Thule?

Did you have to buy any additional equipment to get the hitch to mate properly? I am having trouble with the hitch part.

No, it is not. As mentioned earlier:

.... Got the Thule "Hitching Post" 2 bike model, which is sufficient for my needs. At first the store clerk wanted to sell me a Yakima, the kind that swing out, etc, but it would have required a hitch extender whereas the Thule model has a long enough bar that it (just) fits. With the rack loaded you can almost open the rear upper hatch - I will have to hacksaw about 1/2 inch off 2 small pipes that unnecessarily stick out the back towards the vehicle. .....

As mentioned, it fits right into the RR hitch receiver.
