I have always used a battery tender in various vehicles and boats while batteries are still wired into the rig.

Is this OK to do in the P38 or will its unique electronics go all wonky?

Perhaps a Captain Obvious question, but wanted to ask those more expert on our rigs than myself.

Much appreciated, belated Happy Father’s Day.

No problem at all.
A decent maintainer will float the battery at between 12.8 and 13.2 well below the gassing point (typically 14.2), but high enough to prevent self discharge.
Do be sure to maintain your battery as needed. Some appear to be sealed, but cell filler caps are under the sticker.
Of course, if it is a sealed battery like an optima, do not open.
