Hello, I recently replaced my alternator and all was fine until three days ago when I noticed a strange noise coming from the engine bay. It sounded a bit like power steering cavitation, but wouldn't change pitch when I turned the wheel. I shut the engine off and the next day went to start it up, and nothing. No interior lights, no dash light, not even the click click click you get when the battery is too low to even try turning the engine over. I went to jump the truck, and couldn't get it to jump either. I shut the ignition off and noticed that the battery light remains on. Very bizarre. So I believe that is what is draining the battery, and I didn't notice it the other day when I parked the truck. My question is, why would the battery light stay on after the ignition is off (key removed and all)?

Truck is a 92 Classic 3.9L, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response. I didn't notice the battery light on while the ignition was on and the truck was running. It wasn't until the truck was off that the light came on. Its my understanding the the light should come on when the charging system fails while riving and then you have a few minutes before complete shutdown. That's not what happened here. Either way I am sending the unit back for a new one, I think you are right, the noise I heard makes me nervous. I just don't understand why the light stays on when the ignition is off and key is out.

Any other thoughts?
