Hey guys,

I am new to the forum and had a quick question. I took my RRS to the dealership after sound stopped comign from my speakers. They said that I needed a new amp and could not check out anything else until it was replaced. Instead of paying $1600, they told me I could change it out and they would reprogram it. I thought the amp would be in the back near the DVD player, etc. I read somewhere that it was under the passenger seat. I am planning on taking it out to get the part number. Does anyone have any information before I tackle this project?

Thanks,

Duncan

Welcome to the forum. The attached TSB has part #s for the amplifier (there are two versions of Logic7 amps, depending on your VIN) plus troubleshooting steps - probably the TSB the dealer is using on your car. Indeed, the amp is found under the right hand front seat.

Thank you very much for the help. I managed to get a decent amount of water in the front passenger side footwell, so I think the amp may unfortunately be toast. Do I need to take the front passenger seat out to access the amp?

I'm afraid so. No wonder the dealer told you "Go ahead and replace the amp by yourself"... To remove it you need to unscrew 4 bolts above the unit, and I just don't see how you could do that with the seat in place.

Yea I do not think there is any other way. I will wait until the new amp gets here before I start taking seats out. I am hoping an amp is all that it needs. Everything else besides the sound worked BEFORE I took it to the stealership.....

I haven't taken the audio amp out before, but maybe worthwhile to try sliding the passenger seat forward all the way, similar to removing the DVD Nav player on the driver's side, and see if it can be removed without taking the seat out?

Aftermarket amps will not work with the factory system since everything is conected using fiber optics.

My amp came in today. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have it installed. Has anyone had any problems with the dealer reprogramming their amp. A rover parts guy located one that is used but in perfect condition. I just wanted to see if anyone had gone through this process.

Thanks,

There have been many supersessions on this part, my MicroCat is showing LR015240, which shows a newer supersession to LR039436. The part will need to be programmed for it to work, unless you go used.

Hope this helps.

You can remove the amp without removing the seat, its a little tricky though, not much room for big hands. I couldn't get one of the wire harnesses disconnected from the metal framing that holds the front plastic bit on, so it was a wiggle job to move the parts till I could pull the amp out. FYI nothing serviceable inside the amp, and the case makes up the heat sink for the unit's processors, so taking it apart is a bad idea.
