When replacing an air strut on a 2008 L322, is an alignment necessary?

One shop never did one, the other swears it's a must. To me, you're not knocking anything out of alignment with the process but I could be wrong.

It’s probably recommended but not completely necessary. You aren’t adjusting the tie rods at all. I replaced mine without having an alignment done and the steering wheel is straight, it drives straight and I’m not getting any abnormal tire wear after 8,000 miles of driving.
