Evening all, just a quick question. I’ve been offered a RR P38 2.5D 1997 for almost nothing, as it has a blown head gasket and the current owner is not mechanically minded.

The cost of the repair exceeds the value of the vehicle, it’s high mileage, a bit tatty but mechanically sound.

My question is what do you think I should offer as a scrap value, if anything at all?

My intention is to do the work myself. I’ve changed lots of head gaskets in the past on other vehicles, so not phased by the work. Also, had Landies in the past so also quite used to the taste of EP90.

The BMW 2.5 engine used in the P38 is well known for cracking cylinder heads so you'd need to assume it needs more than just a gasket. Scrap value only but you'd make a decent amount breaking it for spares if you have the room.

^what he said. But just try and get it for as cheap as possible and get a cylinder head to be on the safe side and get to work!
