I agree selling privately is a pain, and people with the means to buy a $60+k used car without financing are likely to buy new.
I would go to Carmax and get a free quote, just takes 20-30 minutes or so of your time. They give you a printed quote that's good for 3 days or so. I would also talk to the LR dealer and see what they would buy it for. I figure any other dealership would not be interested as they would likely send the car to auction unless you are buying your new car from them.
I don't know how NC handles the tax with trade ins since it's a highway use tax but at least it's only 3% right?
