I think the bearings have gone on the clutch pulley of my A/C Compressor. Is there a replacement part available in the UK or will I need to buy a whole new unit? I have seen that it is possible to replace this in the US http://www.rangerovers.net/rrparts4.html#climate but I can see no such item available in the UK. Has anyone replaced this before?

This by the way is a self diagnostics, the sound is similar to a pocketful of loose change if you know what I mean (almost like I have a loose exhaust clamp). It's not audible on tick over, only when the revs are raised. It makes no difference if the aircon is on or off either..... Would this sound like the clutch bearing???

It is not affecting the car in anyway at the moment, just annoying. However I wouldn't want to be there if the bearings failed completely and jammed the pulley completely :shock:

Sometime ago there was a discussion about the same issue. The owner of that car put on a shorter belt and disconnected the ac temporarily. I assume that you could take out the clutch and renew the bearings. As compressors are nor that
expensive why not get a rebuild unit or a complete new one.

Yeah that is an option but the compressor is good and I don't want to have to get the system recharged. Also a new or rebuilt compressor is going to be at least £100 more than just a new clutch and then I will have the recharge of the system on top of that. Just an added expense I don't need.

Just had a look on RAVE and found out that the clutch can't be removed without removing complete pump from car as specialist equipment is required to pull off and press clutch back on. Not impressed :doh:

You should take care of that ASAP. My clutch totally burnt out and started sparking. =(
