93 4.2, no gears, Park won’t engage!

Hey guys,

I have a 93 Range Rover Classic 4.2. Last night I was driving and went from a red light to green light accelerated and then all of the sudden no gears at all just a semi loud spinning sound when in reverse, drive, 1, 2 etc. It rolls in park. Shifting the transfer case did nothing either although I haven’t checked the lockers etc. Everything I've read has said either the transfer case or the rear diff could be to blame. Is there any information you can offer on this? Also what is the cost of a new rear differential? Are they even available? Thanks so much! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

93 4.2, 81k probably rolled though.

There is a similar thread ongoing. You can do some analyzing to figure out where the breakage is. I would start jacking up each wheel and turning to see if the drive shaft rotates, this would at least confirm you axles are fine and your issue is in the transfer case, which from what I read is the most likely issue (worn spline)

do you have a link to that thread? I’ll check each wheel this wkd. Is the spline an individual piece or will the transfer case need replacing? Thanks!

This is far as I can get. Maybe it links, you will see in the list.

Mine did that pulling into my driveway. I suspect the flex plate has failed, I just haven't had the inclination to drop the box and look, yet.

Edit to add, mine is a P38, but it could still be your flex plate.
